Today we are featuring Tracy Alan, designer of Katana. Tracy will be joining us at 3:30 p.m. in Designer Alley to show Katana off.
GAME DESCRIPTION:
Katana is a samurai action card game. The game casts you and an opponent as samurai on a quest to become shōgun of Japan. To do this, you engage in turn-based battles using cards to attack, defend, and even reflect blows.
Two features make Katana unique: Stance mode and kami. Stance mode allows you to play a card face-down at the end of your turn that is activated during your opponent's turn, expanding strategic opportunities and amplifying the intensity of battle. Supernatural beings essential to the practice of shintō, kami act as guardian spirits; in the game, they are represented as cards bestowing passive and active powers. Playing a purify card unlocks these powers and can turn the tide of the game. You can even sacrifice your kami in a kamikaze attack for massive damage.
WHAT STANDS OUT ABOUT THE GAME:
Your option to play your battle card upright or face-down at the end of your turn, it changes the order your plays are made opening up a variety of play options.
