Emily Vincent
We are excited to be welcoming Emily Vincent to this year’s Designer Alley at #G2S2025!
A little bit about Emily, written in her own words.
A lifelong gamer, I began designing games in 2022 after returning from PAX East and realizing that the games I wanted to play didn’t seem to exist yet. As a UX Designer/HCI Engineer by day and an artist at heart, I had long wanted to get into game design but just hadn’t found the right time. As with all of my hobbies, I dove into the deep end with game design. In my first year of game design I worked on 9 different prototypes, taking them to various levels of completion. One of those games, Knitting Circle, was signed to Flatout Games and debuted at Gen Con in 2024. Another of those games, Pirates of the High Teas, will be the first publication from Pink Hawk Games. I was a 2023-2024 GAMA Horizon Fellow Publisher, giving me the opportunity to work with incredible industry mentors and culminating in a Pink Hawk Games booth at GAMA Expo 2024. And I've found a home as a co-host on the Building the Game podcast.
I love beautiful games that blend whimsy and strategy to create a delightful gaming experience. My love of storytelling has led me to explore role-playing and storybook games. While fiercely competitive, I love cooperative games that allow me to play with my friends rather than against them. I pull from the things that I love with every game that I design.
THREE RANDOM FACTS ABOUT EMILY:
Emily is a founding member of Pluto Return, a contemporary dance company creating deeply relational movement that celebrates all bodies as they are, not as they used to be, "should" be, or could be.
Emily has two cats that take all of her remaining time and attention with their demands for food.
Emily has had pink hair long enough that she calls it her natural color.
EMILY WILL BE SHOWING OFF HER GAME PIRATES OF THE HIGH TEAS IN DESIGNER ALLEY AT #G2S2025
Pirates of the High Teas is a whimsical set collection game in which players are pirates competing to win their Captain's treasure by serving the most delicious afternoon tea. Players collect and match dishes with tea cards to serve the Captain a perfect meal. To acquire these dishes and teas, players select actions through a strategic worker placement mechanism on the pirate ship that determines turn order and number of cards.
But don't forget, as pirates, there are lots of ways to break the rules! Players can smash their dishes together, creating ridiculous combinations that still pair perfectly. They can also use their cannon to blow up the available cards, send their monkey to steal a card off the top of the deck, and deploy a parrot to smuggle a single card directly to the Captain for points. Pirates of the High Tea is a fun lightweight strategy game of piracy and pastries. Pinkies up me hearties, yo ho!
